What Is Niche Marketing and Why is Niche Marketing Such An Important Strategy For Your Small Business?
By
If you’re not using a niche marketing strategy to share the word about your small business, you could be missing out on thousands of dollars in revenue because you’re failing to connect with your audience.
In this article, I’m going to go beyond the niche marketing cliche’s (some listed below for your amusement) and share how powerful a concept niche marketing can be for YOU!
Niche Marketing For Fun and Profit!
- When in doubt, niche it out!
- A dream is a niche your heart makes!
- Choose a niche, and you’ll get rich!
How to Get Eager Prospects To PAY ATTENTION to Your Marketing Message and SEEK YOU OUT as an Expert In Your Field
But seriously, folks… today I’d like to talk about the importance of knowing your target marketing and speaking directly to your niche.
It has always been impossible to be all things to all people, and a lot of business owners make the mistake of trying to take their practice "broad" so they can suit everyone.
This may work if you live in a small town and are the only Vet, CPA, or attorney that folks have available to work with. But in this day of CHOICE, customers want a service provider who is the BEST at solving the type of problems they face.
- They don’t just want a "dog trainer" they want someone who is accustomed to training Corgis for agility.
- They don’t just want a CPA, they want a tax strategist who can help them plan their small business retirement account and has done so for other small business owners.
- They don’t just want a real estate agent, they want the best listing agent for waterfront homes over $1 million in value, on the South end of town.
In today’s world, it’s all about specialization.
There may be less transaction volume in a niche or "long tail" type of market. But the good news is that you can OWN that segment of the market and make yourself the big fish in a small pond. Plus, with the advent of the Internet, in many industries, you are no longer limited to clients who live in your own town or region.
If you wanted to help extroverted, work-at-home Moms get started in network marketing, for example, you could focus on helping these Moms across the country, not just people who you met day-to-day.
Your Competitive Advantages When You Choose a Niche To Market To
When you go broad, your message is lost amongst the masses and the noise. When you can tailor your message very specifically to a specific audience you get two advantages.
- You can find your prospects more easily from referrals, direct mail brokers, online marketing methods, and other lead providers if you know who it is your looking for.
- When you find them, and share your message, they KNOW you are taking to THEM and are much more inclined to listen. You can tailor your offer and message directly to your audience, because you know many of the important concerns and desires of the people in your marketplace.
Plus, when you get clients, you’ll have a great idea of what they’re looking for, and can build your skills and knowledge to be able to meet their needs. You’ll get better and better at providing your service.
Repetition of Your Marketing Message
You can go broke trying to call, mail to or visit prospects in a broad niche. Because of the importance of repeating your message to the same targeted audience over and over, you need to choose a limited number of people to prospect, and then STICK WITH THEM – consistently – so they recognize you as the provider of choice.
So, what if you don’t know how to choose your niche because you are new in business, or offer a broad array of services? I’ll be addressing that in an upcoming issue.
